Scope and Motivation
Superconducting and cryogenic technologies are moving from laboratory demonstrators to industrial deployment. High-temperature superconducting (HTS) cables, fault current limiters and rotating machines offer compact, lightweight and highly efficient solutions for electrified transport (railways, aircraft, ships), offshore wind and urban grids. In parallel, operating power semiconductors, passive components and converters at cryogenic temperature opens new paths to higher power density and efficiency. These systems also depend heavily on digital layers: cryogenic plant control, distributed sensing (temperature, strain, voltage), quench detection and protection, and supervisory control. Data-driven monitoring, digital twins and AI-assisted operation could become key to their reliability and industrial acceptance. This Special Session aims to bring these topics to the industrial electronics community, beyond the specialized superconductivity conferences. It welcomes contributions on the modeling, design, testing and integration of superconducting and cryogenic devices and systems, with an emphasis on electrical machines, their drives and power conversion, and system-level integration. Papers combining experimental results with modeling, control or digital tools are particularly encouraged.
